Tax-Free Weekend returns as Mississippi families prepare for back to school

Mississippi’s Back to School Sales Tax Holiday weekend begins Friday and local businesses and South Mississippi retail chains are gearing up to help families save money while getting students ready for the first day of school.

Shoes, backpacks, socks, trending apparel, school uniforms, and lunch boxes are just some of the essentials available during the three-day tax-free weekend.

The financial holiday gives families a chance to save money on many of the items students need before heading back to the classroom.

Retail leaders say getting your shopping done early can help customers find the best selection while making the most of the weekend savings. Academy Assistant Manager Lauren Hammons said, “It’s amazing to us! We love giving back to the community and having the families come in and actually shop. We’re here to help them get all the things they need for the children for that school year. It is a very busy weekend for us. We love the customers that come in, just being able to help them out, and get them ready for the school year. Also, having them save is awesome to us too because it also brings them back when they need other things throughout the year.”

The tax-free weekend runs through Sunday, giving Mississippi families more time to check off their back-to-school shopping lists while keeping more money in their pockets.
