Suspect in officer-involved shooting in Biloxi dies
BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- The man who led police on a chase through Gulfport and Biloxi and exchanged gunfire with them last week has died.
Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer identified the suspect as 39-year-old Malcolm Matthews of Biloxi.
He died Friday at USA Medical Center in Mobile after suffering multiple gunshot wounds in that July 1 shooting.
According to police, Matthews led Gulfport police on a chase in a U-Haul van that crossed city lines in Biloxi.
The chase ended across the street from Treasure Bay Casino where that shootout between Matthews and police from Gulfport and Biloxi ensued.
No officers were injured.
As with all officer-involved shootings in Mississippi, MBI is handling the investigation.
