Applications open for sixth annual Biloxi Citizen’s Police Academy

BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- The Biloxi Police Department is now accepting applications for its sixth annual Citizens Police Academy, giving residents a chance to learn more about law enforcement from the inside.

The program runs from August 20 until October 15 at the Biloxi Police Training Center. Classes are held twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The academy is open to Harrison County residents who are at least 21 years old.

With only 25 spots available, interested applicants are encouraged to apply by July 30.

The program is designed to give participants a better understanding of police operations while strengthening trust between officers and the community. Lt. Matthew Jalanivich said, “You see all the inner workings from investigations, to patrol, all of our specialty programs, and you get to ask face to face questions with the people doing their jobs every day that you might be curious about. You’ll even get to do some ride along with patrol officers, and see real life calls in action.  I’m excited about it! I always like to see the people come through. I think last year we had anywhere from 10 to 15 individuals and I believe they all had a great time and a good learning experience.”
