Local Church Reaches Out To Vets In Need

This weekend, one local church is doing its part to lend a hand to the Coast’s homeless veteran community.
For the second year, First Missionary Baptist Church Handsboro will be hosting their Veteran Stand Down. Tomorrow, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. veterans will be met with a variety of services at their fingertips. Opportunities for everything from legal services to a free haircut will be available.
Veteran Stand Down organizer Robert Boone tells News 25 the event aims to help veterans who may not know how and where they’re able to get the assistance they need. “Through the stand down, we have some 16, 15 or 20 service providers that provide access to housing, provide information on legal services for veterans and what we’re is finding that veterans don’t always know what services are available to them.”
Free transportation is available. The stand down supports veterans in Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Pearl River, Stone and George counties.
