Man charged with first degree murder in deadly Gulfport shooting, victim identified
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- A 34-year-old man is behind bars in connection to a Monday night shooting that left a 19-year-old woman dead and two others injured in Gulfport.
John Gaddis III is charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
According to Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer, the victim has been identified as 19-year-old Nykel Poole of Gulfport. She died from her injuries at the scene after being shot.
On June 29, officers responded to 2000 block of 32nd Avenue in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found the deceased and two other victims with gunshot wounds. The injured victims were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, where they remain in critical condition.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute over narcotics involving Gaddis and one of the victims.
Gaddis III was taken into custody without incident and was taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center where is being held on a $2,000,000 bond.
