Car enthusiasts roll into South Mississippi for 24th annual Scrapin the Coast

BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- Thousands of custom cars rolled into the Mississippi Gulf Coast this weekend for one of the region’s biggest automotive events.

Saturday marked the busiest day of the 24th annual Scrapin the Coast with competitions, live entertainment, and activities keeping visitors busy all day long.

Chrome, custom paint and booming sound systems filled the Mississippi Coast Coliseum as the 24th annual Scrapin the Coast hit its biggest day of the weekend.

Car enthusiasts from across the country showed off their customized rides while thousands of spectators checked out everything from lifted trucks to lowriders and classic cars.  “Today we had the hydraulic competition out front. A few of the cars broke, some of them couldn’t participate but they did put on a great show. They came all the way from Miami, Florida to put this event on. Social media has had a great part in getting things moving in the right direction. We’ve got a lot of changes coming for our 25th anniversary next year. We got some things in the oven we’re working on with some people from down south Florida. So, we’re going to make it bigger and better and change a few things up, try to grow the show even more.”

The day didn’t end at the Coliseum. Organizers wrapped up the day’s festivities with an after-party at Gulfport Dragway, giving attendees another chance to connect with fellow car enthusiasts. “We do appreciate all the love and support over the years the people have given us here on the Gulf Coast. I know it’s an aggravation with a lot of the streets and everything. We try to work with police, fire, and everybody to keep them up to date on everything that is going on and we want to make it and grow more with the city and do more collaboration with the city to help grow this event to even bigger.”

Whether it’s the custom builds, the competitions, or the atmosphere, Scrapin the Coast continues to draw thousands to the Mississippi Gulf Coast each year.
