Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office remembers Deputy Len Rowell

PEARL RIVER COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- Sunday was the anniversary of one deputy’s death in Pearl River County.

On June 28, 1994, Deputy Len Rowell was shot and killed by a suspect who killed an Alabama officer two weeks earlier.

Deputy Rowell made an early morning stop on the suspect, as he approached the car the suspect got out and shot Rowell six times.

That suspect returned to Alabama and was stopped by an Alabama Safety Commissioner officer, also killing them.

The suspect killed themselves after being surrounded by federal agents.

Deputy Rowell served with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office for 18 months, previously serving as a marine during Operation Desert Storm.
