Mississippi reaches record job growth in May

Mississippi has reached a new employment milestone.

Governor Tate Reeves says the state set a record in May, with more than 1.19 million non-farm jobs added to the state workforce.

The announcement follows a series of economic development awards the state has earned in 2026, including a National Gold Shovel Award recognizing Mississippi’s success in attracting new business investment.

The state also ranks second in the nation for growth in job openings since 2020, with hiring demand up nearly 20 percent.

State leaders say more than 85 billion dollars in private investment has been announced in Mississippi during the past several years, creating thousands of new jobs.
