Cajun Navy conducted multiple water rescues in Gulfport
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- Volunteer rescue crews with Cajun Navy 2016 are being recognized for multiple water rescues in Gulfport.
The Cajun Navy worked alongside the Gulfport Fire Department to help evacuate residents and their pets from floodwaters along the Biloxi River as heavy rain and rising water created dangerous conditions.
Among those rescued were members of a youth baseball team from Fort Worth, Texas who became stranded while in the area for a World Series tournament.
Rescuers also helped save a kayaker trapped in swift-moving floodwaters after his kayak became pinned against an elevated home. The man was brought to safety without injury.
