Pearl River Central’s Wyatt Davis Continues Growing Mississippi Football with Fifth 601 Elite Quarterback Showcase
What more could you ask for than seeing some of Mississippi’s and the surrounding states’ premier quarterbacks and playmakers sharing the same field? This showcase is the vision of Carriere’s Wyatt Davis, whose passion for quarterback development drives everything he does. “
I love Mississippi and I love quarterbacks, so I mean I’m walking in my purpose and why I was put on the earth,” said 601 Elite Quarterback founder and Coach Wyatt Davis. “It makes you feel good. There’s a whole lot more work to be done, but it feels amazing to see these guys come out here and spin it. You know, there’s not many opportunities where you can pull guys from all the way in North Mississippi down to the Mississippi Coast to come in for one night to just compete and throw it around and just have fun.”
During his fifth 601 Elite Quarterback “Under the Lights” showcase, Davis invited over 70 signal callers to “The Rock” at Southern Miss to buy in, dig deep, and battle. Athletes from the Junior College level all the way down to High School Freshman were led in several drills and game-like scenarios creating a competitive environment to bring out the best version of themselves.
“I think in the past five years of doing this camp this is probably our best event,” Davis said. “We didn’t have the SEC guys or anything like that, but as far as talent as a whole from our Junior College guys down to our freshman it was very talented.
As a Pearl River Central alum himself, Davis knows the South is a gold mine for talent. The Mississippi Gulf Coast was well represented with eleven Quarterbacks and even more receivers. Quarterbacks from the Gulf Coast present included Parker Nettles, Paris Trivillion, Jordan Ramsey, Chalmers Berglind, Titus Feaster, Dawsen Sullivan, Keon McNeil, Jackson Wolverton, Trac Smith, Justin Wedgeworth and Lane Danner. Five of them share what this experience was like and what they enjoyed the most.
“I think it was pretty fun having some of the best quarterbacks in Mississippi together,” said Biloxi Quarterback Jordan Ramsey. “I had the most fun competing against quarterbacks from all over the state. It was really fun. It was also really great to be acknowledged as one of the best quarterbacks in the state, so I appreciate Wyatt Davis for giving me an invite here.”
“It was fun and it was a great experience,” said Pearl River Central Quarterback Titus Feaster. “I came last year, but this was way more fun. It’s fun competing against everybody else and getting to know everyone else.”
“My favorite part about this whole thing was the last thing we did at the end with the pass while you’re on the run and the quick throws and everything you need to know about a quarterback,” said St. Martin Quarterback Dawsen Sullivan. “It was really fun and I had a great time competing with the best guys in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana, so it’s definitely a great time.”
“It was great being around some of the top guys in the state and being able to compete for a day. It was really fun,” said Pass Christian Quarterback Paris Trivillion. “My favorite part was probably the long toss because it was pretty cool seeing how far guys could throw.”
“I enjoyed the competition. There was a lot of competing out here and a lot going on,” said Gautier Quarterback Keon McNeil. “It was my first year coming to the camp and I liked it. I can’t wait to come back.”
Now all that’s left to do is to patiently wait for August, so let the countdown to kickoff continue! Congratulations to Wyatt Davis and his coaching staff for yet another successful showcase encouraging everyone to outwork all.
