Governor on FEMA Denial of Flood Claims
Just over a month after immense rainfall destroyed some homes and businesses in Harrison County, FEMA has denied federal funding.
Harrison County and Governor Phil Bryant say they’re reviewing their options for an appeal. Governor Bryant says he’s reached out to FEMA and is encouraging our state delegation to reach out to them as well.
FEMA officials say the total amount of damage did not meet requirements for a disaster designation. “We’ve talked to the Harrison County Emergency Management. They are concerned that we might not be able to produce the documentation necessary for an appeal. I’m encouraging our delegation to reach out to FEMA. I’ve reached out to them as well. We think we can work with the leadership of FEMA and our congressional delegation to see if an effort for an appeal would be worthwhile. I think we need to make it,” said Governor Bryant.
More than 100 apartment homes and nearly 25 businesses suffered damage from the April 28th rainfall.
