Lorenzo Wright reacts to being named MAC Boys Basketball Coach of the Year
The Mississippi Association of Coaches has announced its 2026 Coaches of the Year. Now, we’re hearing from them about what this major milestone means and how they believe it came to be. We’re first catching up with the 2026 Boys Basketball Coach of the Year, Head Coach Lorenzo Wright!
During his 10th season as Pascagoula High School, Coach Wright not only surpassed 300 career wins, but brought home the first ever Class 6A Basketball state championship title to Pascagoula and Jackson County as a whole, finishing the year 28 and 6.
He tells us the emotions he felt after receiving the honor and how his team got him there.
“If was kind of not necessarily a disbelief, but just a proud moment. It’s hard to explain and describe it,” said Head Coach Lorenzo Wright. “I’m just extremely proud of it and that just goes to the testament of those guys on the team last year, and then the work we did over the last three, four… really ten years to get that award so it means a lot. I think whatever you do, you have to have a group of guys that are behind you that’s going to fight for you and push hard to accomplish any goals that you have. I had that at Pascagoula, and I plan on having that here at Harrison Central.”
He truly left his mark as Pascagoula High School, and we look forward to seeing what this Coach of the Year does next at Harrison Central. Congratulations again to Coach Lorenzo Wright!
