Infrastructure upgrades moving forward for College Park neighborhood in Gulfport

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- Gulfport is moving forward with a major water infrastructure upgrade in the College Park neighborhood.

The city council has approved an engineering contract to begin design work on a $4 million project to replace aging and failing water lines.

The improvements will cover the area generally surrounded by Cowan Road, Pass Road, Debuys Road, and the railroad tracks.

City leaders say the project will replace decades-old water mains with modern pipe, while also adding new fire hydrants and valves to improve service and reliability.

The project will be paid for through the city’s fiscal year 2026 water and sewer fund budget.

Design work is expected to be finished by the end of the year, with construction to follow.

City officials say existing water lines will remain in service until the new system is tested and ready to go.
