Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic nears finish as anglers compete for big prize
BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)-The 29th annual Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic is entering its final stretch with one last chance for anglers to make a move up the leaderboard.
With just one day left in the tournament, excitement is still running high.
Crowds got a look at a 111-inch blue marlin caught by Team Miss Virginia, one of the biggest fish to hit the scales.
As the competition nears its finish, anglers are still chasing their share of more than $1.4 million in cash prizes ahead of Tuesday’s final weigh-in. Billfish Classic Organizer Robby Carter said, “The first set of teams that went out on Saturday morning, today is their final day to compete. Tomorrow, we’ll have a weigh in for the teams that competed yesterday morning. So, we have two jam packed afternoons of weigh-ins for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic. We just showed resiliency with the weather changes, the commitment of our competitors, sponsors, everyone that helped make this event possible. Everyone stuck together and that’s why it continues to succeed year after year.”
Organizers are inviting families to come out Tuesday for one last look at the fish that help make this tournament a Gulf Coast tradition.
