The Downtowner announces opening date in Gulfport
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- After more than a year of construction, The Downtowner has announced its opening date.
The Downtowner will open June 9, 2026. It’s located in the historic Triplett-Day Building at the corner of Highway 49 and 14th Street.
Construction on the project began in May 2025.
“The Downtowner was created to be a restaurant that truly reflects Gulfport’s story,” said owner and renowned restaurateur Robert St. John. “We wanted to honor the history of this iconic location while creating a place where people can gather, celebrate and make new memories.”
Part of the restaurant guests can enjoy is the ‘Triplett-Day Room,’ an area featuring photographs, memorabilia, and artifacts from the pharmacy. Throughout the restaurant, guests can look at historic photos, community keepsakes, and displays that show off Gulfport’s history.
The Downtowner offers a variety of foods for breakfast and lunch as well as pastries and lattes inspired by St. John’s Loblolly Bakery.
The restaurant is open Monday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
