Man arrested, charged in stolen fire truck investigation in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV) — An Alabama man has been arrested on multiple charges following an investigation involving a stolen fire truck and reported break-ins in Jackson County.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old John Burhing III of Hoover, Alabama was arrested and charged with commercial burglary, motor vehicle theft, and auto burglary.

The charges stem from an investigation into a fire truck that was reported stolen from the Old Americus Fire Station.

The investigation began after a resident contacted the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office to report the incident. The resident also informed deputies that Burhing had allegedly broken into a vehicle in the area.

Officials say Burhing was later taken into custody after returning the stolen fire truck to the station and walking nearby.

Burhing was transported to the Jackson County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held pending an initial appearance in county court.
