Local organization comes together to serve the community

The Gulf Coast Healthy Families, Mothers and Babies Initiative gathered this weekend to feed the hungry one grocery bag at a time.

The organization held a food distribution drive Saturday to help the community members in Jackson County. The team also offered free COVID-19 vaccinations to the residents who participated.

The organization is currently on a five-year cooperative agreement funded by the CDC as part of the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health Program.

They are currently on year four of that agreement. Manager Kezi Jones said, “We are so appreciative of all of our partner organizations as well of all of our volunteers. We’re so grateful that we able to, again, serve community members not only with the food distribution but also with the COVID 19 vaccinations. As many Gulf Coast residents know, Moss Point is a Covid 19 hot spot. So, we felt like it was extremely important that we are out here.”

The organization was able to serve groceries to about 300 individuals during the food drive.
