Develop an Evacuation Route

The Mississippi Department of Transportation provides hurricane evacuation routes for all of the coastal counties.
Residents can see a full list of safe and effective evacuation routes by logging on to mdot.ms.gov. The website also shows contraflow plans, as well as radio coverage areas.
Southern District Commissioner Tom King tells News 25 MDOT is well trained and well prepared to handle the effects of whatever storm may hit this season. “Whatever happens, well certainly we hope that it doesn’t happen. We are ready. We’re prepared. Of course, the Louisiana governor has to request help from Governor Bryant and when Governor Bryant gives us the word, we will proceed and do what we need to do for 1-55 and I-59 on the contraflow lanes.”
The website also provides a list of emergency contact numbers for the southern region.
