Update on baby pelicans recovery from Tropical Storm Cindy
It’s been weeks since the storm and rescue workers say baby pelicans are still washing up on the beaches.
After Tropical Storm Cindy hit the Coast, Wildlife Care and Rescue Center volunteers recovered nearly 30 baby brown pelicans from shores in Hancock County all the way to Jackson County. Just yesterday a baby pelican was found on the beach in Pascagoula and rescue workers are calling the bird’s survival a miracle.
A rescue volunteer tells News 25 most of the pelicans were in rough shape, but now most are on their way back to good health. Wildlife Care and Rescue Center Volunteer Judy Roe said, “Dehydration, some injuries, very hungry, and just beat down from the storm, but we’ve seen them flourish. They’ve all been doing so well, we lost a couple, but for the most part they’ve all done wonderful and they’re learning to eat and hopefully they’ll all be taking off and being pelicans soon.”
