Widening Interstate 10 in Jackson County
Construction cones line parts of I-10 in Jackson County and will more than likely be there for the next two years.
An eight mile road widening project from Exit 50 in Ocean Springs to Exit 57 in Vancleave is underway. According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, the $40 million project was awarded to Mallette Brothers in Gautier. They plan to widen that part of the interstate from four to six lanes. Work crews will be out from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Sundays through Thursdays.
This is a project Jackson County residents believe will be beneficial in the long run.
Crews have already started paving parts of the stretch from I-10 eastbound toward Exit 57. Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Chase Elkins tells News 25 his patrolmen are strictly enforcing the now 60 mile per hour speed zone.
