Special Olympics Torch Run

The state summer games held in Biloxi aren’t officially underway yet, but things and people are already up and running for this weekend’s special Olympics.
This morning, members of our local law enforcement had the honor of carrying the Special Olympics torch on its way to its ultimate destination at Keesler Air Force Base, where the games will kick-off this weekend.
This morning, the torch moved through Jackson County, from Moss Point to Pascagoula and then on to Gautier and Ocean Springs and then to Harrison County.
There are plenty of reasons these torch carriers were pounding the pavement this morning. Runner Darius Wilson with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said, “This was for a good cause for our athletes here in the city of Moss Point and Jackson County. It’s definitely a pleasure and a privilege to support them. Their ability to overcome pushes me and drives me to push to the finish. So, pain is no option right now.”
The law enforcement torch run continues through Jackson and Harrison County and finishes at Keesler Air Force Base.
