George County takes game 1 over Pearl River Central in the 6A Softball South State Championship
Perkinston, Miss. (WXXV)- It was Game 1 of the Class 6A South State Softball Championship, and the George County Lady Rebels wasted no time making a statement against the Pearl River Central Lady Blue Devils at MGCCC’s Ross-Smith Softball Field.
Pearl River Central came out swinging in the top of the first inning. Addison Davis delivered a big hit to spark the offense, while teammate Kylie Terry showed hustle on the bases to help the Lady Blue Devils strike first and grab an early lead.
However, George County quickly settled in behind strong pitching from their own Addison Davis, shutting down Pearl River Central’s offense and shifting momentum heading into the second inning.
That’s when the Lady Rebels exploded.
Kyleigh Howell ignited the surge with a towering home run, rounding the bases with confidence and energy that fueled her team. From there, George County capitalized on every opportunity. A defensive miscue by Pearl River Central allowed Lindsay Hayes to score, and the offensive pressure continued to mount.
Addisyn Chavers added with another key hit, keeping the scoreboard moving as the Lady Rebels piled on runs in a dominant inning.
By the time the dust settled, George County had erupted for a massive nine-run second inning, taking a commanding 9-1 lead.
The Lady Rebels weren’t done yet, tacking on two more runs later in the game to seal an 11-1 victory in Game 1 of the series.
With the win, George County takes an early advantage in the South State Championship matchup. Meanwhile, Pearl River Central will look to bounce back and even the series when the two teams meet again Friday May 8th at 6 p.m. weather permitting.
