PEARL, Miss. — The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency says 17 people were injured during severe weather that impacted the state on May 6 and 7. No fatalities have been reported.

Preliminary damage reports have been received from five counties, with hundreds of homes damaged, road closures, and widespread power outages. As of Thursday morning, more than 15,600 customers were without power statewide.

Two shelters are open for displaced residents in Lamar County and Lincoln County.

Damage assessments are underway, and officials urge the public to avoid sight‑seeing in affected areas and to report storm damage through county or MEMA channels.
