Coast seniors receive college scholarships from AlphaCare Urgent Care

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV) —  Some high school seniors from across the coast will feel a little more comfortable financially when they start college in the fall thanks to scholarships from AlphaCare Urgent Care in Ocean Springs.

Twelve high school seniors came together at AlphaCare in Ocean Springs on Wednesday to accept their $2,500 scholarships to help with college expenses.

“I’m very honored to receive this scholarship, and I’m very grateful to AlphaCare,” said Kimber Pennell, a senior at Our Lady Academy. “It’s really important to me because I really care a lot about healthcare. I plan on majoring in public policy, so I want to be an advocate for healthcare and how accessible it is, and receiving this scholarship will help a lot with college expenses and making sure I’m financially stable in college.”

“It’s a great honor. It’s great to get local scholarships, and I’m glad I was chosen to be one,” said Chase Spring, a senior at Ocean Springs High School. “I’m doing P.A. School, so having another health scholarship will just be another great addition to a great resume.”

This is the sixth year AphaCare has given out these scholarships, and this year, a total of 20 students will be awarded. AlphaCare owner George Loukatos says this is one of the best ways they can give back to the community.

“This is probably one of the best investments we can make back into the community, because our return is 100% guaranteed. These kids are all outstanding. We had 137 applicants and 20 winners. Just reading these applications and seeing what these kids have accomplished it just… it renews our faith in the community and in the world. These kids are just outstanding,” Loukatos said.

AlphaCare Urgent Care plans to continue awarding students with these scholarships in the future to help soon to be graduates with their educations.
