WIGGINS, Miss. (WXXV)- The Wiggins Fire Department responded to a collision involving a train and an 18-wheeler at the railroad crossing on South 1st Street between East Fifth Avenue and Mill Avenue.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the train stopped on the tracks with no visible damage. According to the train crew, the 18-wheeler crossed the tracks without stopping. The train’s engine then struck the rear portion of the trailer.
The truck left the scene before authorities arrived.
The Wiggins Police Department later located the truck. The driver reported no injuries.
Minor injuries were reported among the train, but no one involved required transport by ambulance.
The incident remains under investigation.
The Wiggins Fire Department wants to remind drivers to come to a complete stop at all railroad crossing and look both ways before crossing. They say even trains at slower speeds can require up to half a mile to come to a complete stop.
