Jackson County Court upholds 2022 burglary conviction

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The State Appeals Court made a ruling in a 2022 home invasion case in Jackson County.

Tommy Vu kicked in the door of his ex-girlfriend’s home back in 2022, yelled at the woman, and took her phone while children were inside.

On appeal, Vu claimed there wasn’t enough evidence to lead to conviction, that the jury heard improper information about his past, and that his attorney was ineffective.

The court disagreed, ruling the evidence, including testimony from the victim and witnesses, was strong enough to support the conviction.

Judges also found most of Vu’s arguments were waived because his defense didn’t object during trial.

As a result, his 25-year sentence has a habitual offender will stand.
