South Mississippi mourns the loss of Jackson County Sheriff Deputy Jimerson

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- Tributes are pouring in across South Mississippi after a Jackson County sheriff’s deputy was killed in the line of duty.

Deputy Michael Jimerson was shot and killed while responding to a disturbance in St. Martin Wednesday night.

A community in mourning as friends, family, and fellow first responders remember a man who dedicated his life to serving others.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Michael Jimerson was killed in the line of duty Wednesday night while responding to a domestic disturbance at the Reserve Gulf Hill Apartments in St. Martin.

Investigators say just before 11 p.m., a short foot chase with a woman led to gunfire. The suspect, 27-year-old Maley Ross, died at the scene.

Deputy Jimerson was rushed to Ocean Springs Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

State investigators with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations are handling the case as the community comes to terms with the loss.

The sheriff’s office says Jimerson was committed to his community, a dedicated deputy who answered the call when it mattered most.

His loss reaching far beyond Jackson County, touching neighboring departments and families across the Coast.

In Pass Christian, the fire department shared an emotional message, saying “Deputy Jimerson’s loss is deeply personal to our department.’  Adding that his son serves as a firefighter there and his sister as a dispatcher, a family of first responders, now forever changed.
