The Downtowner breakfast restaurant to soon open in old Triplett Day building in Gulfport
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) — A new breakfast restaurant will soon open inside an iconic Downtown Gulfport building.
The Downtowner is expected to open its doors in late May or early June, bringing new life to a familiar landmark. The café will be located inside the historic Triplett-Day building, right at the corner of Highway 49 and 14th Street.
The retro-inspired space will pay tribute to the building’s past while giving locals something new to enjoy. That includes keeping the iconic stripped green exterior many in the community have come to recognize.
The new owners also purchased the two buildings next door to expand. The back portion, named the “Triplett-Day Room,” will showcase photos and memorabilia from the former business, while the rest of the restaurant will highlight Gulfport’s history.
The café will serve traditional, southern breakfast and lunch. The Gulfport Main Street Association says the new downtown spot is expected to attract steady business from both locals and tourists.
As of now, The Downtowner team is putting finishing touches on the restaurant, and job openings to work at the café are now posted.
