Pearl River Central baseball remains flawless in district play with 14-7 win over Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Miss. (WXXV) — Pearl River Central continued its dominance on the diamond on Friday night with a 14-7 win over the Long Beach Bearcats in the second game of a regional series between the two teams.

The offense was hot to start for both teams. Kendall Morrison got the hits started for the Blue Devils with a single, and he’d come home on a sac bunt by catcher Eric Mavor.

Long Beach would strike back in the bottom of the frame with a pair of doubles by Aiden Downey and Dax Arkin to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Landon Tyre tied things up with a grounder to short. Arkin would steal home in the frame to give the home team a 2-1 lead after the first inning.

Downey continued his big night at the plate with his first career home run to extend the Bearcats’ lead to 3-1, before the Blue Devils plated three runs in the third.

Game three between the programs takes place at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pearl River Central. The Blue Devils will go for the series sweep, as they won the first game of the series by a score of 11-1.
