Gulfport Boys and Girls Powerlifting Teams prepare to defend their State Titles
Most students look forward to spring break because it means more sleep and time by the pool, but one group of students have been looking forward to it because they have a chance at making history yet again. Sports Director Ansley Brent is at Gulfport high school as both the Gulfport boys and girls powerlifting teams aim to defend their State Championship titles.
For many Gulfport High Students, it’s the first day of a two-week long Spring Break, but that’s not the case for a strong group of Admirals as both the Gulfport Boys and Girls Powerlifting teams are hard at work as they aim to defend their State Championship titles. The boys are just one bus ride to Jackson away from continuing their dynasty and winning their fifth state championship title in a row for the first time ever. Winning both the Regional and South State titles earlier this year, leaders on the team spoke on why they believe they’re so successful.
The girls’ story may be different, but it’s far from over. The Lady Admiral were just shy of the Regional and South State title, but instead of feeling defeated, they’re motivated and have a plan! With both squads taking it home last year, they know it’s possible. Senior Admirals reflect on what it would mean to them if their Gulfport careers end with another ring. The State Championship will take place at the Mississippi Coliseum with the girls competing on Friday and the boys competing on Saturday. Best of luck to both the Admiral powerlifting teams!
