Athletes compete at the Special Olympics Mississippi Area 12 Track and Field games in Moss Point

MOSS POINT, Miss. (WXXV)- The track was packed with excitement in Moss Point Wednesday as Special Olympics athletes showed out for a day of competition and community celebration.

WXXV’s Asia Ellis takes us to the field, where the energy was hard to miss.

From the starting line to the finish line, these athletes aren’t playing any games. They’re giving it their all and making every moment count.

The City of Moss Point hosted the Special Olympics Mississippi Area 12 Track and Field Games at Jerry Alexander Stadium.

More than 120 middle and high school students from districts across the Coast competed alongside Special Olympic adult athletes working to qualify for the state games at Keesler.

The event also featured an opening processional led by Gold medalist Gregory Means, a fan festival for families, and lunch provided by Chevron, all made possible by hundreds of volunteers.
