Community celebrates Pascagoula Panthers with State Championship parade

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WXXV) — The city of Pascagoula is celebrating making history recently.

The Pascagoula Panthers boys basketball state champions paraded around the Flagship City to revel in their 56-54 victory over Terry, marking their first ever 6A championship win. The community came out in full support of the team with floats, decorated trucks, and golf carts.

We spoke with championship winning Coach Lorenzo Wright to get his reaction to the community’s support.

“It’s a tremendous feeling. You got a lot of people that are turning out to support us. It’s greatly, greatly appreciated,” said Coach Wright. “When I woke up on Sunday, I just really couldn’t believe that this happened. But it’s all about soaking it all in and enjoying the moment. It’s been a great 10 years. It’s gonna be bitter-sweet, but what better way to leave Pascagoula than going out on top?”

We also heard from Pascagoula High School senior Will Rogers on how he’s feeling after the historic win.

“Going out with a win for my last high school game… that’s the biggest blessing I could ask for. That was probably the best moment of my life,” said Rogers. “Support means everything. To see how much support we got from the community, the city… yeah, that’s real good. We really appreciate all the fans, how they stuck with us the whole year. It means everything.”

Congratulations again to the Pascagoula Panthers on this historic win!
