Resurrection Catholic sees boys basketball season come to an end following MHSAA playoff disqualification

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WXXV) — One Coast basketball program faced some tough news over the weekend, just days after it reached the semifinals of the MHSAA basketball playoffs.

Resurrection Catholic School has been removed from the playoffs due to participation by a player who was later determined by the MHSAA to be ineligible to compete. The decision was announced on Saturday, days after the team took down Piney Woods to advance to the Big House.

On Saturday, RCS principal Kristal Sisson released a statement on the matter, detailing the impact this has on the program and adding that the school will take all measures necessary to prevent any future conflicts regarding eligibility.

“First and foremost, I want to sincerely apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience this has caused our student-athletes, families and our RCS school community,” Sisson said in a portion of the statement. “This oversight was entirely unintentional and in no way malevolent. Nevertheless, the responsibility rests with us, and we fully accept the consequences of this mistake.”

The Eagles end a big season on the hardwood with a 22-6 record and a 1A Region 8 title.
