Man arrested after shooting, attempting to flee law enforcement in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- An Ocean Springs man is behind bars in Jackson County after a shooting in St. Martin and attempting to flee from law enforcement.
On February 4, deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department responded to a home on Alex Court in reference to an aggravated assault.
Upon arrival, deputies located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. Through the course of the investigation, deputies learned the victim was involved in a previous verbal altercation with the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Matthew David Jackson.
According to the police, Jackson traveled to the victim’s home and shot him as he opened the door.
Jackson was captured on Interstate 10 by Moss Point Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department as he attempted to flee Jackson County.
He is currently being held in Jackson County with no bond and pending an initial court appearance.
