Ohr O’Keefe Museum of Art awarded grant to restore, update Pleasant Reed House
BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- A historic Biloxi landmark is getting new life thanks to a grant aimed at preserving Mississippi stories ahead of America’s 250th anniversary.
The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art has been awarded a $20,000 America250 Legacy Grant from the Mississippi Humanities Council.
The funding will support restoration and updates to the Pleasant Reed House, a historic home that represents African American craftsmanship and resilience in Mississippi.
Pleasant Reed was an emancipated craftsman whose work and life reflect the creativity of Black artists along the Gulf Coast.
His home, preserved through years of community advocacy, now serves as a vital link to Biloxi’s cultural history.
