Swearing in of new offices in Long Beach
Rain and flooding didn’t stop the City of Long Beach from swearing in their new mayor and seven new aldermen.
George Bass will assume the office of mayor in Long Beach. He takes this office after serving the city as the fire chief for 21 years. He is stepping into the shoes of previous Mayor Billy Skellie and Bass believes he has big shoes to fill. “Watching him handle those different situations and being a community guy. I love Long Beach and I think if you cut me I would bleed Long Beach. I feel like I am following in some good footsteps and hopefully I can be as good and effective as he was.”
Bass tells News 25 that the next steps for Long Beach will be working towards solutions to help combat flooding.
