Local reaction to Synagogue fire in Jackson

As the investigation continues into a fire at Congregation Beth Israel in Jackson over the weekend, members of South Mississippi’s Jewish community are reacting to the incident.

Jackson fire officials say the fire caused damage to parts of the synagogue, but no injuries were reported. The fire is being investigated as arson.

The suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Stephen Pittman and he has been charged with arson.

Additional charges may be pending investigation.

The fire has drawn reaction from Jewish congregations across the country and here in Mississippi, including members of Gulfport’s Congregation Beth Israel.
