MDE announces third grade reading assessment results

The Mississippi Department of Education released the results of the 2024-25 third grade reading assessment.

According to MDE, 85 percent of the Mississippi third graders passed the assessment. That is an improvement from years before.

A record 77 percent of third graders passed the initial test given in the spring of 2025. In accordance with the LBPA, third graders who do not pass the initial reading test are given up to two attempts to retest.

The Mississippi Department of Education has made great efforts in recent years to increase literacy outcomes in the state.
