State Supreme Court rules RV Park can proceed in Gulf Park estates community

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV)- The Mississippi Supreme Court has upheld Jackson County’s decision to allow a major new RV resort on more than 300 acres near Ocean Springs.

This is a decision that over the past few years has been met with opposition from some Gulf Park Estates residents for years now.

Residents challenged the county’s special exception in court, arguing the zoning ordinance outright prohibited RVs in a planned unit development district.

The Supreme Court disagreed, ruling that the county’s ordinance does allow exceptions for uses not otherwise listed and that supervisors acted within their authority.

The high court also found the board had substantial evidence, especially concerning flood-zone complications, showing traditional development on the property was impractical.

The court’s decision now gives the green light for development to proceed.
