Grandmother charged in death of five-year-old boy in Slidell

SLIDELL, La. (WXXV)- A five-year-old boy in Slidell was killed after being hit by a car in his driveway Tuesday morning.

Now, the boy’s grandmother is charged in his death. Slidell police say the boy was waiting for the school bus when his grandmother, Kristen Anders, started to leave for work and backed out of the driveway in her SUV.

Anders did not realize her grandson was outside and when police arrived on scene, they observed signs of impairment.

Anders now faces charges of vehicular homicide.
