Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, Pearl River Central’s Titus Feaster!

It’s the final week of the regular season for our high school football programs, and teams are giving it their all for that final post season push. This specific two way player has put his foot on the gas and hasn’t let up all season long, which led him to receiving his first division one offer as just a Sophomore. Introducing our WXXV Student Athlete of the Week, Pearl River Central’s Titus Feaster!

At this point last year, the Pearl River Central football program had a record of 2-7. Just one year later,, they’re 6-3, literally flipping the switch. Head Coach John Feaster and sophomore Titus feaster share what they believe helped turn the ship around.

“Consistency from the coaching staff and myself and just showing up

and bringing our best everyday. I believe that’s the biggest attribute to flip the script,” said Head Coach John Feaster. “Consistency and love as well. We’re hard on them, but we love hard and we try to love on them each and every day.”

“It’s great and everybody started believing,” said Sophomore Titus Feaster. Last year we weren’t there yet, but we’re here now. We’ve made great progress. Our strengths are definitely our skill guys, our receiver core, running backs, and quarterbacks. Our offensive line has also really improved since last year.”

The Blue Devils are coming off of their biggest district win of the season, with a final score of 49-21. Quarterback Titus Feaster also had his biggest game yet, setting a new passing yard record of 448 yards with going 18-20 with 7 total touchdowns in the process. The dual threat quarterback gives credit to his offensive line and playmakers for making it happen. They work hard. When I work, they work, so it’s a good feeling knowing I have guys behind me, guys in front of me, it’s a good feeling because on the field I feel like we’re brothers. If I get sacked, oh well. I get back up, tell them to pick it up, and they can take that.”

“The offensive line blocked and that’s really all I needed,” Feaster said. “I have great receivers and all I need is for them to be open.

Speaking of making it happen, let’s just say they don’t call him two-way Titus for the alliteration. The sophomore plays both sides of the ball as a free safety, having seven tackles and two tackles for loss just last Friday. Feaster attributes his toughness and love for contact to his older brother and cousins.

“When we were younger, we used to get into it a lot, but that’s what made us strong today. He’d hit me and I’d hit him. I also had big cousins so they’d hit me and I’d try to hit them back,” Feaster said. “Playing both sides is all I’ve ever wanted to do in high school, hopefully college, in peewee,  middle school. I just love defense. I balance both by studying, watching film, and knowing where I’m going to be watching defense while they’re going against me to see where I’ll be at.“

Whether he’s on offense or defense, Feaster’s goal is to bring the energy.

“Bringing the energy at practice, energy and intensity,” said Feaster. If one person has energy then everybody has energy, so that’s what I try to apply not just with my words but my actions as well.”

The Blue Devils hope last Friday’s energy carries over to Thursday as they play their final regular season game against Picayune. The Feasters hope to execute and play to the standard.

“I think we’re going in the right direction. We use a term that means continued improvement, so that’s what we work on everyday,” said Coach Feaster. “Our thing is that we play to the standard, not the scoreboard. The standard is bringing your best. It’s what God requires, not what Coach Feaster requires.”

“We just work. That’s all it is,” said Feaster. “We work hard over here. We’re going to practice and be full speed. Today was supposed to be a walk through day, but no, we’re in shoulder pads. We need to execute, do our jobs, listen to what our coaches are telling us and that’s all we need to do.
