Picayune PD completes K9 handler course in Alabama

The Picayune Police Department is highlighting K9 Nitro and Handler Sgt. Chris Penton.

Both completed the K9 Handler Course at Cougar Creek K9 in Troy, Alabama.

K9 Nitro is an explosive detection dog that was recently donated by Cougar Creek K9 and Southern Cosmos K9.

Sgt. Penton learned about changes in dog’s behavior, scent theory, and leash handling during the course.

K9 Nitro took part in searching luggage, vehicles, rooms, and buildings.

Sgt. Penton also learned the importance of trusting your dog.
