Leadership in law enforcement
This week, while most of us were focused on the weather, the Mississippi Association of Chiefs of Police was focused on improving their abilities to lead police departments across the entire state.
Since Tuesday, hundreds of chiefs have been in attendance at the association’s annual summer meeting, one of two gatherings held each year.
The purpose of the conference is to introduce new aspects of policing while strengthening the ties within the state’s law enforcement community.
Members of the FBI were also on hand, sharing the latest training techniques as well as updates to law enforcement policies on a federal level. MS Association of Chiefs of Police Executive Director Ken Winter said, “All of these things, we’re constantly working to make our chiefs not only better leaders and police officers, but looking at ways that they can serve their communities better. That’s the tools that we want them to take back home with them.”
After a half day session this afternoon, these chiefs will return to their communities to pass their newly learned skills on to their deputies.
