Remembering Officer Katie Cash
Just one day after graduating from the Harrison County Law Enforcement Training Academy, Officer Katie Cash was involved in a car accident in Waveland on Highway 603 and died from her injuries.
Captain Shane Ogburn, who was one of the over 80 trainer officers Cash took instruction from while at the academy, was left heartbroken over the tragic news.
Captain Ogburn tells News 25 Officer Cash was a very attentive student, asked a lot of questions, was very excited about becoming an officer and had dreams of having a long and fruitful career.
During the 11-week law enforcement training, Officer Cash expressed her desire to help the community and wanted to better the City of Waveland for her children and other children in the area.
After training, Officer Cash was eager to put her training to good use and help the area she lived in.
The law enforcement community continues to mourn her loss and Captain Ogburn sends his thoughts and prayers to her family, the City of Waveland, and the Waveland Police Department. “I looked in her eyes and you could tell she wanted to make her community better for not only herself and her children, but for other children out there. It really does something to you when you become a parent in the job. You really want to see the community be a better place for your children and all the children in the community. You really want to see that and she had such a zeal for that, that’s really one of the big things I remember about her.”
Officer Cash’s funeral services have now been announced.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Picayune on Saturday, July 24th.
Following that, the funeral procession will make its way to Waveland Cemetery where Cash will be laid to rest following a graveside service.
