FEMA approves Ken Combs Pier repairs
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- There is big news relating to the reconstruction of one of Gulfport’s major piers damaged by Hurricane Zeta in 2020.
Congressman Mike Ezell saying Friday that FEMA has awarded more than $1.1 million in federal funding to make permanent repairs to the Ken Combs Pier.
The pier has been out of commission since the storm and in the past has been a major recreational and fishing spot for Gulfport residents.
Congressman Mike Ezell and Gulfport Mayor Hugh Keating both responded to the news today.
Ezell said in part that this is “a major win for Gulfport and the local economy” and that he’s continuing to push FEMA to move faster on other repair projects that need funding to proceed.
Mayor Keating thanked Ezell for his efforts in helping to secure the funding and also talked about the pier’s status as a Gulfport community landmark and as a driver for the local economy.
