Work begins on new USM oyster hatchery in Ocean Springs

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WXXV)-The University of Southern Mississippi has broken ground on a new oyster hatchery in Ocean Springs to help in restoration and research efforts in our Mississippi waters.

The building will be located at the school’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory Cedar Point Campus, which houses the Thad Cochran Marine Aquaculture Center.

Once complete, the facility will be capable of producing up to one billion eyed larvae per year.

The building is expected to be complete by late summer or fall of next year.
