Harrison County working to curb drug related crime in county; multiple arrests made

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV) — Multiple people are behind bars after several drug busts in Harrison County. We spoke with Sheriff Matt Haley to learn more about how the sheriff’s office is trying to curb drug related offences.

This week, we brought you a story about drug efforts in Picayune, and now, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office is giving us updates on their own efforts to cut back drug related crimes.

An undercover operation led to the arrests of 25-year-old Yarnesia McClary and 28-year-old Elton Mckinzy Jr. of Tallahassee, Florida, on felony drug trafficking charges. The sheriff’s office says a search of the suspects’ vehicles revealed 25 pounds of marijuana and around $30,000 in cash.

This comes after a traffic stop on I-10 led to three arrests and the seizure of over 100 pounds of cocaine last week.

Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley says that the department is attempting to decrease drug related offences in the county by increasing units covering the interstate, being that I-10 is a hot spot for trafficking.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office is also working to open a real time crime center in the near future which is expected to aid the department greatly. We should know more on that soon.
