National Guard troops from four states begin arriving in DC

WASHINGTON (AP) — National Guard members from West Virginia, South Carolina, Mississippi and Louisiana began arriving in Washington on Tuesday to assist in President Donald Trump’s federal crackdown on crime and homelessness in the District of Columbia, according to the D.C. National Guard.

The crackdown began earlier this month after Trump said Guard troops and officers from other federal agencies would patrol the streets of Washington.

He said they were needed to keep the peace, reduce crime and further the White House’s immigration-restriction efforts.
