Kemper County Power Plant update
State regulators want to pull the plug on the Kemper County Power Plant that was supposed to burn coal more cleanly.
The Public Service Commission says the Atlanta based Southern Company should absorb $6.5 billion in losses and ratepayers should pay nothing more.
The commission is giving Mississippi Power 45 days to agree to a settlement of rate matters regarding the $7.5 billion Kemper County Power Plant.
Parts of the plant that were originally projected to cost $2.9 billion remain incomplete and the project is more than three years behind schedule.
Commissioners want rates to stay at least level for customers and preferably go down.
