Mississippi Power donation helps customers pay energy bills

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) — Some Mississippi residents will have the chance to get money off their power bills thanks to a generous donation from the Mississippi Power Foundation.

The Mississippi Power Foundation is donating $350,000 to United Way to help customers with their energy bills as extreme temperatures continue to hit the state.

As The Coast is heating up during the hottest month of the year, Mississippi Power is giving those in need one less thing to worry about. This is the third year that Mississippi Power has put up money for those needing a break in their bills.

The funds will be disbursed through Catholic Charities, which is a partner of United Way. It will only be available to those who demonstrate a need for financial aid.

Catholic Charities will filter through the applicants and determine who is eligible for assistance.

Mississippi Power also offers a year-round program called Project SHARE. Customers can look into this project if they are in need of help with energy bills for a longer period of time.

If you would like to apply for assistance, you can call Catholic Charities at (228) 701-0555 or 1-855-847-0555 to find out if you’re eligible.
